Step 1: ROASTING OF THE COCOA BEANS

Chocolate is made out of harvested cocoa beans. Factories begin the process by roasting large amount of cocoa beans to help develop the flavor the consumers prefer in a bar of chocolate. In this process, cocoa shells are removed. The very fruits of the cocoa after the shelling will then be processed so they could be sorted according to size. This process is most commonly known as “winnowing”.

 

Step 2: CRUSHING OF THE COCOA NIBS

After the winnowing process, the cocoa nibs will be ground through a large grinding machine. This process will produce the so-called “cocoa liquor” which is then mixed with other ingredients such as sugar and cocoa butter. Other ingredients may also be added depending on the manufacturer’s branding or preference.

 

Step 3: MOLDING THE CHOCOLATE

Once all the ingredients have been incorporated, the chocolate will be then be molded. This is the final step in the overall procedure in chocolate production. In addition, it is also in this process that the chocolates are packaged and distributed to the market.

 

The mass production of chocolates is a very interesting process. As a matter of fact, it is quite a meticulous process too since the ingredients must be well-proportioned to ensure the quality and taste of the chocolate. Manufacturers use measuring equipment to meet this requirement and to produce what we all know as one of the best desserts: the well-loved chocolate.
